The Potter's School
If your school (including home school) manages their own transcript credit, then you may want to engage in 90 minutes of live conferencing each of the 35 weeks for a cost of about $460. Although not accredited, The Potter's School offers a highly interactive mode that helps history tourists understand where they are, what the are seeing, and keeps the group moving together through the winding corridors of world history.
This is an excellent choice for the student whose connection costs to the Internet are reasonable, and who would enjoy a real-time, live conferencing classroom. Duedates help keep the TPS history tour group together. This decreases the amount of self-discipline required by a purely "work at your own pace" course. TPS continues to be very popular. For example, back in September of 2003, TPS had 34 instructors working with 1100 students from 32 countries taking 175 classes. (Some of the countries were: Cambodia, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cote D'ivoire, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malawi, Niger Republic, Poland, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Vanuatu, Uzbekistan)
The Potter's School lists this course as "World History from a Biblical Perspective". Carefully preview the requirements stated in the World History Syllabus, some of the reading assignments and general structure of TPS courses before registering with The Potter's School (returning families register here.) After registering with The Potter's School, the student needs to apply to the instructor, and be approved before paying for the course. According to the TPS description, this course targets students in grades 10, however, the majority of students who take this course are in grade 11. Although many of the weekly readings are at a college level, the instructor's conferencing style makes the advanced content easy enough for most ninth grade students to grasp.
Prospective families are encouraged to read the Frequently Asked Questions to make sure this unique course matches parental expectations. Specifically note that most student submissions are edited and anonymously published on hyperhistory.net as part of a ministry to provide world history in Biblical perspective to a global audience (which averages over 100,000 visits per month during the school year).
Students who would like to move through the curriculum at their own pace, without live group instruction, might consider the accredited, but more expensive, Northstar Academy "AP World History" course.
| The Potter's School "offers a broad curriculum of high quality on-line junior and senior high classes taught by instructors who honor homeschooling values. Our intent is to partner with parents in the home education process. The courses are primarily independent study programs that are guided and evaluated by the teacher and supervised by the parents. Live classroom sessions (usually one per week) are used to highlight significant material from the past week and to afford students an opportunity to interact with one another and with the instructor. All of our courses feature personalized timely feedback.... Each teacher is selected based on academic expertise, Christian character, and commitment to Biblical standards of service and faith." | ||
| Parents Say: Mr. N., In Christian Love, Thanks for the prompt reply regarding Jonathan's grade. He greatly
benefitted from your class. I look forward to my daughter Samantha participating
in your class this coming school year. You and many of the teachers
at TPS have helped my husband and I to continue to choose homeschooling
for our family as our children have reached their teen years. Not only
have we appreciated the assistance in "keeping the bar high"
academically, but the adult Christian example provided to my teenagers
has been invaluable. The HS World History class was one of the most outstanding events of this school year! Alyssa blossomed and thrived under Mr. N. careful instruction! The Christian worldview associated with this class in particular was beyond outstanding!!! Cindy and I both wanted to find the time to read Alyssa's history assignments. Unfortunately for us, that seldom happened, due to ministry overloads. However, when Alyssa would share with us about the things she was learning, we were truly blessed! Thanks so much for offering this outstanding worldview course on World History!!!!! It was great!!!!! Mr. N. changed Alyssa's life---both by giving her a greater love for History, and by encouraging in ways that will greatly help her in life. Blessings! We are grateful that our children were able to have you as their instructor
in world history via a Christian perspective, and pray that God blesses
you and your family. |
Students Say: "Hi Mr. N! "Yes, I'm reading through a world history textbook right now,
just to kind of solidify all the stuff I learned in your class, dates
and whatnot. The best part is, I can really step back and see the entire
picture, just like you taught us! I'll be reading this section on Egypt
and I'll be like, hey, what was happening in the rest of the world during
that time? And I find myself asking WHY, what was the source, what was
the reason that this happened, those kinds of questions. It's so awesome!
Anyways, thanks again for teaching me how to love and really get the
most out of world history!"
Hey Mr. N.! Thank you sooo much for teaching history. I have learned
more in this history class than any one I've ever taken! This is an
incredible ministry that you have and it has blessed my life and without
a doubt the lives of many, many others! Thank you again. "Thanks for being a wonderful teacher to me! I didn't enjoy history
that much until you came along and started teaching me! It is REALLY
interesting. I REALLY enjoy it!"
